If you are trying to think of some new and fun things to do with your dog and you have a very playful and energetic puppy, you will understand that any form of play is always a good answer for them.

We are sharing a few interesting games/activities you can do with your dog. Most of them are very easy, cheap or free with things that you already have at home.

FETCH

This one is the automatic favourite, anything that you can do to make your dog chase a ball. Throw it upstairs or downstairs to make it more fun and give your dog some exercise.

SCENT WORK

If you haven’t tried this before, you’ll be surprised by how much your dog enjoys this. Try placing different treats on a multi-compartment/multiple partitioned plate, covered with something that your dog has to take off. Say for example, covered with tissue or paper balls, where the treat is below these. Your dog will sniff through and get to the treat eventually and this acts as a surprise element your dog will really get down with.

HIDE AND SEEK

Active dogs will love playing this game. You’ll be surprised how some dogs start to cry when the cannot find you! This game can be played around home, where you can hide behind doors and furniture. If your dog is lost in a way, offer some audio or visual cues in a subtle way to help.

TREASURE HUNT

This one resembles an easter egg activity. Hide treats randomly in the house and watch your dog look out for them. Don’t forget the spaces you leave these treats, so you can clean up later.

OPEN THE BOX

You can try placing your treat in a little cardboard box (like the Amazon packages 🙂 and watch your dog work it’s way through to the bounty. This activity can keep your pet busy for a while and work it’s mental processes.

TRAINING TRICKS

This can be done a couple of times in a week, where you train your dog to do things like:

  • Sit
  • Up
  • Down
  • Roll over
  • Speak
  • Pray

This is a good way to train your pet some easy to learn commands to show a little discipline and connect.

WALK/RUN

This can be an exercise for you as well. Get a little outdoor activity to keep things new and fresh. The world out there has enough activity to keep you entertained.

MAT LICKING

This one is an unusual activity. Dogs love to lick on things and there are special licking mats for dogs available on e-commerce stores. You can get one of them and spread a slight coat of your dogs favourite food, like for example peanut butter. Watch them fall in love with their mat.

BLANKET ESCAPE

Use a blanket or bedsheet (not too huge) and just flip one square over your dog and watch them find their way out. There’s going to be a lot of action here with wriggling and snatching, but it’s an exciting activity.

CUP GAME

Three cups and a treat under each opaque cup, mix them up and let your dog figure out which one has the treat. Just like a magician, where you allow someone to guess which cup has something inside of it after quick shuffling.

BRAIN GAMES

Place a lot of PET bottles (plastic) in the way of a dog and see if it likes to dodge the bottles without dropping them. Keep it easy and see if your dog takes interest in the activity.

SPA DAY

This is where we can help! Zoom Groom give them an interesting day out to take a nice bath and drying, grooming them to look great and keep up their hygiene game.
